FIELD is a creative studio in London and Berlin. As artists, designers and consultants, we explore the aesthetics of the near future, and how technology is changing the way we live our lives – working with code and data, moving image and interaction, sculptural and spatial experiences.
Extreme Measures is a speculative design prototype which acts as a friendly, unexpected way of sensing dimensions and volume. It allows you to place "elephants" anywhere in your home to measure how much space you have: that area under your bed, that nook under your stairs. The elephant then inflates to the confines of your newly-discovered spaces.

By creating new ways of visualising size and space, FIELD experiments with our own perceptions of scale and find new and more useful ways to utilise, optimise and transform our spaces. Extreme Measures uses this information to collect accurate measurements of size and volume and display them in a way intended to shift your outlook and perception of your home. While previously such information required a large static setup, having LiDAR in a hand-held device and being able use the retrieved data in real time opens new possibilities to explore.

FIELD’s hope is that these experiments invite the viewer to consider their space differently – whether it’s making better use of space or redecorating based on senses other than sight. In short, they’re promoting a new way of seeing.
'Considering playfulness with a child’s perspective can bring something new to the way you design your space, in a positive way.'
