Daydreaming

Our first experiment will be a fairly easy one.
Today at 3pm, I’m going to let myself day-dream for an entire 20 minutes.
Jared has a friend who has started at least 5 successful business that he thought of…in the shower. Yep. In the shower. That’s where this business-genius does his brainstorming. Perhaps this works because in the shower he lets himself dream. He’s not terribly busy in there. Just going through the motions of lather and rinse. Perfect time to let his mind wander and ponder new ideas.
I don’t know that daydreaming all the time is the best practice. But it’s certainly not the carnal sin it’s made to be in elementary school.
It is with our daydreams that we build the foundations for our lives. Letting our minds wander and ponder random things for a few minutes a day could energize and motivate us to try new things. So, I believe daydreaming should have at least a small space in our busy lives.
Perhaps this is something you already practice, if so, tell us why you do it and what you learn about yourself through it. And if you’re more like me, someone who is a little bit scared of letting go to dream about what I actually do want in life, then try it with me today.

I love this concept–putting something out on a blog creates that accountability so it’s not just a challenge to yourself, but now you are being challenged by others to follow through.
Like Nathan said, quiet time is rare in this home…however, we put the kids to bed by 7 so we get that each evening–and many nights are “bathtub dates” where we light candles, sip wine, take a bath, and dream about the future together–throwing out ideas and aspirations both as individuals and as our whole family unit. It’s crucial not only to keep us individually motivated, but to unite us and strengthen us in the relationship we’ve created together. Love it.
This is AWESOME!!!!
Love the look of it – LOVE the idea.
Signed up & excited about the challenges.
Not day dreaming with you today tho…got a houseful-a-people in town -
(wrote a bit about that on my blog – http://www.stumblingaroundinthelight.com)
hmmm…tho I could have some nice, peaceful, intentional daydream time while I nurse the baby tonight…
I love Day Dreaming. I need to take time to do that more. Sadly, in our house, the shower is not such a great place to find peace. There is usually a kid crawling around at my feet. Ashley and I try to take an hour a couple times a week to quietly (hot commodity in my neck of the woods) day dream about where we want to go,be, stretch to. It is a great tactic to do with your significant other. It keeps the accountability…and the spice…up in the relationship (sorry Jared if you are reading this…but I learned this level of open intimacy from your side of the fam.) Anyway, I digress; Heres to Day Dreaming!
We definitely lose the art of daydreaming at some point, replacing dreams with mental to do lists and “oughts and shoulds.” Definitely did this today on the subway, but then realized that in my state I was awkwardly staring at the passenger across from me. Whoops!
I love the “Something” in the clouds in this post. Who knows what that will be – but let’s chase it and find out.
this makes me happy
Excellent! I’m a big fan of dreaming, and daydreaming. That’s where my best ideas come from, almost every time.
And yes, my friend (whom shall remain anonymous) has created a few major businesses from his thoughts in the shower. We’ve joked about bronzing it at some point. Maybe putting it in a museum or something.
I believe we should live our lives as extensions of our dreams.
